Essential Grooming Tips for Men

Let’s face it—men do not spend as much time and effort on grooming as their female counterparts. Whether it is down to genetics or gender conditioning, the fact of the matter is, it is how it is. Unfortunately, it is also a fact that men need grooming a lot more than women do. Luckily, it’s not as hard to get started as one might think. Here are some excellent tips to get you started.

Find a scent, and stick with it.

Your scent is a part of your overall presence, so it’s important to make sure that it is a good one. Obviously, you don’t want to overpower people in a noxious cloud of aftershave, nor do you want to rely on your natural scent alone. Find a scent that best represents you, and use it sparingly. It may not even have to be a high-end brand of perfume or cologne, just something that is characteristically you.

Pay attention to your chest.

Okay, this does not mean shaving your chest completely, although there are still some people who prefer this. Rather, just make sure that you don’t look too much like a grizzly bear. You only need a good pair of clippers and a mirror to groom your chest. Go in the direction of the grain when you trim your chest hair, then moisturise thereafter to prevent irritation and redness.

Don’t forget your back.

Back hair is probably the least appealing thing in the entire world, so there should really be no negotiation when it comes to getting rid of it. Simply put, everything has to come off. The good news is it’s the least painful area to wax, so you really have no excuse not to do it.

Do armpit maintenance.

Armpit hair in a man could be manly, but not when it’s peeking out of shirts, or looking like a bona fide afro. So give it a little trim from time to time.

Sort out arm hair.

While forearm hair is the norm, hair on the upper arm and shoulders is just weird. So if you like to show off your biceps, make sure to have hair taken off the top.

Pay attention to your hands and fingernails.

Always clean and trim your fingernails. Even a little dirt under the nails is unacceptable. It is advisable to file the jarred ends of the nail so that it look uniform. Keep your hands smooth and nice to the touch with some moisturizing hand cream, as well. The best products for the job would be those containing Vitamin A, as they not only nourish your skin, but your nails as well.

Don’t ignore your backside.

Like back hair, bum hair should not exist at all. And we’re not just talking about hair on the cheeks either. We’re talking about your entire backside in general, crack and all. So get your backside waxed the same time you get your back done. It will not take very long.

Two words: ‘man parts.’

Yes, we’re definitely going there. First of all, think about your bush. While hair is acceptable in that area, the volume should be kept to a minimum. A quick trim with clippers will usually take care of that.

Second, consider your beans. It should be kept smooth. All you need is a good, sharp razor and a lot of shaving cream. Be patient, and do it section by section. This is one thing that you do not want to rush.

Next, deal with the shaft. Getting rid of hair in that region will actually do wonders for its aesthetics, believe it or not. Again, take your time when you shave this area. And make sure to always go with the grain.

If you’re uncomfortable with the idea of dealing with your own junk, there are actually professional services on offer now that would wax that area for you. While it sounds painful, it actually eliminates ingrown hair and razor burns, so it’s a great alternative.

Give time to your legs.

While men’s legs are generally hairy, there are some that are hairier than most. So if you fall into this  latter category, you might want to consider a quick run with the clippers.

Your feet and toenails need care.

Dirty, ugly toenails are a deal-breaker for many people, so make sure that you pay attention to yours. Regular trimming and cleaning would already go a long way in this area.

Indeed, there is much to enjoy from being properly groomed and polished and very little to regret from the effort. Suffice it to say, you will be able to significantly improve your life in many aspects by simply making an effort.
